Anyone have any advice about offset patio umbrellas?
Where to buy? What to look for? What not to buy?
Where to buy?:
We purchased ours from Lowe's. That market has a good selection from which to choose. I just check Lowe's web site and only found one off-set that is not what we purchased, so I don't be versed how they decide what to put on the web.
We shopped WalMart also along with a local store that is dedicated to patio furniture and assories.
What to look for?
Think back on that you get what you pay for. With these off-sets be mindfull of the laws of physics. The more weight that is "hung" the farther away from the backup, the more counterballance weight (mass) will be required to hold the structure in place when external forces (twine) apply MORE forces to the off-set mass (umbrella).
We purchased the one that has a massive base within which we fill with water, adding several hundred pounds (foregather) to the support system.
Ease of errection is another factor. Ours has a very handy crank-cable with some safety features that other models do not have. What you do not destitution is the umbrella part to come crashing down on someone(s) head(s) because someone else just happened to trip the system.
Diameter of the unbrella is a choice also . . . smaller means less token weight (mass) required to hold in place in a breeze.
What not to buy?
Basicly, do not buy cheap or light or delicate. Counter-ballance mass is very very important. This becomes quite apparent when the first strong wind gust whips in while you're doing the topless sunbathing factor :-) LOL
