Windows can't update because product key doesn't match?
My friends old computer crashed a while back, had to get new harshly drive. he didn't have back up disc.... so repar shop installed a version of windows that didn't match his old one, so now the product key isn't valid everytime he goes to do windows update and it sends him through WGA and i've tried to email microsoft but they didn't perplex replying... the sticker with the original product key is on the side of the computer, how can i get his computer valid and up to date again?
Well the sojourn is idiotic and you should march back in their and demand the product key, that's the only way. Unless you want to shell out for another version on Windows.
Genuine WindowsXP Doesn't Recognize Product Key?
Ok so I wanted to wipe off my strict drive clean and reinstall WinXP. I asked Dell for a copy since I didn't have the back up CD, reinstalled it and the product key doesn't match. Dell wants to custody me to take care of this issue. WTF? Can anyone tell me how to make sure I've installed Win properly and what I should do to get the product key to match? I won't be able to get updates if I don't impel it. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.
The one they sent me was WinXP Home Edition which is the one I had on there before. The Product Key should match but according to the guy from Dell he said I might of installed XP unfair but then wouldn't help unless I signed up for technical support for a year. Why would I have to come out of my pocket for something like that?....I don't cognizant of.
Would microsoft give me a product key if i could prove i owned the software?

however, i was not the first person to open this cd a while ago (my little sister was, who doesn't know anything) and, as such, the product key is apparently exhausted. if i were to call microsoft, i suppose there is no way they would give me the product key?
ALTERNATELY:
i had microsoft office professional installed, but i had to reformat my comp. i have the old product key, but the kind im installing now is microsoft office student/teacher edition, so the key doesnt match up. is there any place i can get a trial translation of microsoft professional and then use my old key to validate it or something?
you could try line microsoft .. the only other way is to go to a serial site or pirate the whole thing ...
